๐Ÿ’ก Top Tips for Each IELTS Module

Listening: Read questions carefully before each section starts to help follow the recording and identify answers.

Writing: Examiners assess how well you use English โ€” there are no right or wrong opinions, so express your ideas clearly.

Reading: Read each question carefully first, then skim the passage quickly for a general idea before reading in detail.

Speaking: Practise speaking English regularly before the test โ€” record yourself to build confidence and identify weak areas.

Listening: Look ahead to the next section's questions between sections rather than reviewing the last section.

Writing: Respect word limits strictly โ€” below 150 words for Task 1 or 250 for Task 2 will cost you marks.

Reading: Copy words from the passage carefully โ€” spelling must be accurate, even when the answer is taken directly from the text.

Speaking: Avoid repeating the examiner's words; use your own vocabulary to showcase your full English ability.

Why Take the GRE?

So, why should this exciting test be on your radar? Here are some reasons why the GRE can be your key to unlocking graduate school awesomeness:

  • The Great Equalizer:ย The GRE is like a magic leveller. It provides a standardized way for universities to compare applicants from all sorts of academic backgrounds. This means your stellar skills can truly shine, even if your undergraduate GPA isn’t perfect.
  • Skills for Success:ย The GRE isn’t just about memorizing facts. It focuses on the very skills you’ll need to thrive in grad school – critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication. Acing the GRE shows universities that you’re ready to tackle complex academic challenges with confidence.
  • It Opens New Doors:ย While not all grad programs require the GRE, many do, especially for competitive programs like MBAs, MPHs, and doctoral degrees. A strong GRE score can be your golden ticket to these programs, making your application stand out from the crowd.
  • Scholarship Superhero:ย Universities often consider GRE scores when awarding scholarships. A great score can make you a scholarship superhero, helping you ease the financial burden of graduate studies.

Top Tips for GRE training

In Verbal questions, eliminate clearly wrong answers first. This increases your chances of selecting the correct option.

Instead of learning thousands of words, focus on commonly tested GRE vocabulary.

For many math questions, approximation and estimation can help you reach the answer faster.

Spend 1โ€“2 minutes planning your essay outline before writing. This improves clarity and organization.

There is no penalty for wrong answers, so always make an educated guess.

If a question takes too long, skip it and return later to save valuable time.

In reading comprehension, quickly read the question first so you know what to look for in the passage.

GRE often includes trap options that look correct but slightly change the meaning. Read answers carefully.

Reading & Writing

64 minutes

The Reading & Writing section is divided into two adaptive modules, each lasting 32 minutes with 27 questions. The difficulty of the second module adapts based on your performance in the first module.

Math

70 minutes

The Math section also contains two adaptive modules, each with 22 questions and a time limit of 35 minutes per module. It focuses on algebra, advanced math, problem-solving, data analysis, geometry, and trigonometry. Students can use the built-in Desmos calculator throughout the Math section. The second module adjusts its difficulty depending on your performance in the first module.

Try plugging answer choices into the equation. This trick often helps you reach the correct solution faster.

If you donโ€™t know a word, look at the surrounding sentence to understand its meaning.

The Digital SAT includes the Desmos calculator. Use it to graph equations or check answers quickly instead of solving long calculations manually.

Look at the question first so you know what information to focus on while reading the passage.

If a question takes too long, skip it and return later to manage your time effectively.

Timed practice helps you build speed, accuracy, and confidence for the real SAT exam.
